1971 marked one of the few years (only 5 in 60+ years) that WCPD did not exactly duplicate CHP spec's in their selection of patrol cars when they chose the Fury over the Dodge Polara, making the Fury relatively unique in department history. The only other deviations were the Chevy Nova's and Impalas in the mid 70's to early 80's. The 71 Furies were outfitted with the 360 motor, rather than the 440 due to overheating and fouling problems in the 68 and 69 Dodges (before, like the CHP, the department tried Mercury Montereys in 1970). Previously restored as Streamwood, IL patrol car (as seen on Copcar.com). Currently being "refined" to match 1971 WCPD marked patrol cars |
